Journal Response - 9/20/22

This week had two readings with the intro and explanation of Hamlet's Hit points as well as chapter 5 of The Medium of the Video Game.  The Intro of Hamlet's Hit Points "How to Pretend You've Read This Book", makes it clear that the book will be about analyzing how stories in role playing games keep us engaged.  The opening essay/ explanation, "Surprised By Story",  explains the role of story in games like Dungeons and Dragons and RuneQuest and how they affected future RPG games. Chapter 5 of The Medium of the Video Game goes into the history of narrative based games and how we got to where we are today with the evolution of technology and storytelling techniques.
